Israeli officials were advised Tuesday against the construction of more settlements in the West Bank by a senior member of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Conservative party, reported Reuters.
Ruprecht Polenz, the head of German Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee said that if Israel continued its settlements, then Israel runs the risk “of gradually committing suicide as a democratic state.”
The AFP reported that the Israeli government provides more funding for West Bank settlements than they do for non-settlement areas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to end settlements activities – which has impeded the Israel-Palestine peace process.
The Jordanian government has rescinded thousands of citizenships awarded to Palestinians in the country in efforts to keep Jordan from becoming a Palestinian state, reported the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported also reported that “Palestinians make up 70 percent of Jordan’s population.”
Jordan’s Interior Minister Nayef al-Kadi told the Jerusalem Post, “Our goal is to prevent Israel from emptying the Palestinian territories of their original inhabitants.”
