President Barack Obama expects the Senate and House to agree on the outline of a health care plan by their recess in August, reported USA Today.
Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele joined the expanding number of opponents, reported the Washington Post.
Steele said that the Obama Administration “want[s] to get a bill done in the next two weeks. This reckless approach is an ill-conceived attempt to push through an experiment and all of us should be scared to death.”
Steele added, “He’s conducting a dangerous experiment with our health care. He’s conducting a reckless experiment with our economy.”
The Washington Post reported that Steele has also asked Obama to eliminate much of the health plan and accept many long-waiting Republican proposals.
Of the five committees working on the health care legislation, three have approved versions of the bill, reported the New York Times. The House Energy and Commerce Committee will continue looking over and voting on a bill this week. Committee chairman Henry Waxman, reported the New York Times, anticipates an approval of the bill.
